Within the framework of Corporate Social Responsibility, ECG participated in the Egypt Booth at the 2015 Rotary International Convention held last June in São Paulo, Brazil. Represented by Dr. Nevine Abdelkhalek in her capacity as “University to Work” (UTW) Project Manager, ECG aimed at presenting the UTW initiative as a sustainable vocational education project that has so far trained and certified more than 2,000 engineering graduates.
Around 30,000 businessmen, rotarians, and representatives of foundations from more than 160 countries were brought to São Paulo for the humanitarian and corporate responsibility convention, which also involved an exhibition.
The convention is regarded as a “Mini-United Nations” due to its global scope and the cultural diversity of participants sharing their success stories, exchanging ideas, getting to know one another, and opening up funding opportunities of prospective and current projects.
As the pictures illustrate, the presence of ECG and UTW at the exhibition was effective. It had been initially made remarkable during the opening session of the convention when Dr. Abdelkhalek was seen carrying the flag of Egypt.
Back in Egypt, where everything was overwhelmed by the lovely spirit of Ramadan, ECG successfully completed the preparation and distribution of 1,700 dry food packages among the needy. ECG additionally supported the distribution of another 800 packages, which brings the number to a total of 2,500 packages given away in Cairo, Beni Suef, Al-Sharqia, Ismailia, Qena, Helwan, and Sohag. Some 12,500 underprivileged individuals benefited from the donated foodstuffs.
Dr. Abdelkhalek, accompanied by Sohag Rotary Club President Ali Mubarak and ECG Logistics Administrator Abdel Razek Abdel Baki, personally took part in the handing out of packages at the Municipal Unit of Awlad Azzaz Village in Sohag. It is worth noting here that a team of ECG employees, along with their families, had volunteered in the preparation of packages.
